No. 2526
COLONIAL SECRETARIAT,
LOWER ALBERT ROAD
HONG KONG
30th July, 1946
Sir,
Further with reference to your letter of the 19th December, 1945, under Reference No.53611/7/45 and your letter of the 23rd April, 1946, under Reference No.53611/7/46 on the subject of the conferring of Medical Degrees in the University of Hong Kong, I have the honour to report that at a further meeting of the University of Hong Kong Medical Degrees Emergency Committee held yesterday, the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery was conferred in absentia on the under-mentioned candidates, namely:
Chan Kam Fai,
Cheung Mung Wah, Ho Sai Keung,
Ng Tsun Man,
Low Nan Hang, Teoh Tiaw Bee,
Wong Yiu Lai, Wu King Tak.
His Excellency the Governor, as Chancellor of the University, felt that until the future of the University was more clear the time was not ripe for him to speak on University topics at a Congregation and, as any Degrees conferred by the Chancellor must under the provisions of paragraph (1) of Statute 3 be conferred at a Congregation of the whole University, he accordingly asked the Committee to proceed as on the last two occasions and to confer the Degrees.
So far as can be foreseen this is the last occasion on which the Committee is likely to be called on to function.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient, humble servant,
Mittaglerigg
Chairman,
University of Hong Kong Medical Degrees
Emergency Committee.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
GEORGE HALL, P.C., M.P.
